Sometimes we set out to fight our battles in the most obvious ways. Our tongue can be such a weapon when we want vengeance or retaliation. Our actions can take a further stand operating in the flesh. I love how God defies all of our reasoning and tells Joshua how to fight the Canaanites in a very unconventional manner. Our ways are not His ways. The arch represented God with them. Victory comes not when the walls of our enemies come down but it is God Himself who is victorious and our mighty Conqueror. We look not to the walls but to God alone. The walls may represent our enemies who have built a fortress against the Lord and His children but there is insight, wisdom or plan that can come against the hand of the Lord.
Proverbs 21:30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
It is interesting to note that Revelation 8 has 7 angels blowing 7 trumpets with 7 wraths of God upon the wicked.
God told Joshua to have 7 priests blowing 7 horns represented the same with the wrath of God upon Jericho and its inhabitants, the Canaanites. Along with marching around the city 7 times on the last day.
Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts
Joshua 6:1-5 King James Version (KJV)
1 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
2 And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
