I Samuel 17:37 And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and may the Lord be with you.” 38 Then Saul clothed David with his garments and put a bronze helmet on his head, and he clothed him with armor. 39 David girded his sword over his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. So David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I have not tested them.” And David took them [u]off. 40 He took his stick in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, even in his pouch, and his sling was in his hand; and he approached the Philistine.
David did not want a man- made armor to fight his enemy, it was useless to him. It would not protect him in battle because it did not fit who he was spiritually. The armor David wore was not known to man unless they truly knew the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
How many times have we picked up our own shield and forgotten that the Lord is our shield from the enemy. The enemy can come at us in various ways where we become consumed in battle rather than shouting the victory because we know God is our shield and defender.
It is so easy for our flesh to pick up a man made shield to use in ways that will never gain us victory. If we only trust in His word, His sword of truth....we could rest in Him and watch our Lord move on our behalf.
David put on the right armor, faith in God to conquer his enemies and bring justice where there was none. Whatever battle we face, we can face it in His strength and His might...not our own. We cannot allow the lies of the enemy to infiltrate any breach left open in the gate of our hearts.
Wikipedia: A shield is a piece of personal armour held in the hand or mounted on the wrist or forearm. Shields are used to intercept specific attacks, whether from close-ranged weaponry or projectiles such as arrows, by means of active blocks, instead of providing passive protection.
