When we think of revival, we tend to picture believers all shouting and clapping their hands in praise, a new found excitement in Jesus filling the atmosphere. It can stir up emotions but can it stir up the dross remaining in the hearts of those who truly have not surrendered their lives to our Savior?
Isaiah 57:17 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
This scripture displays a different picture than the jubilee jumping, toe tapping crowd. God is saying I visit the humble of heart, those who are lowly in spirit and broken. They know their position in Christ and are grateful, worshipping in their free gift of God’s grace.
The humble do not boast about their revival, it is given to them by God’s measure of goodness. He is the lifter of their souls not man. No amount of music can touch the core of a man’s heart to bring the depth of worship that loves God with all their heart, mind and soul. External gimmicks of sorts are not true revival measures; they exalt the pride of man and not God.
God is the only one that can change hearts, if a person remains on His Potter’s Wheel. Revival cannot happen without it. Any church can create a venue and call it Revival, but it is not from God. Revival starts with God not in a building where they invite God in-between programs and healing services. They give Him a cue like a Director’s card and say now is your moment to shine but in reality it is all in the hands of the manipulators. It is very engrossed blasphemy indeed.
Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
How can we be revived if we are already thriving in man- made titles and positions granted by other prideful men? If you expect others to call you by title, then you have already given your soul to self-idolization.
When we are truly humble and contrite your conscience is fully charged and in line with the Lord’s will. Repentance is not a scary word to you because it means you get to fellowship with the Lord and His Holy Spirit. It hurts to grieve God’s Spirit and this is the furthest thing you desire in your heart.
God revives us in different ways because He knows how we need to be revived. You are touched by His Spirit and faith leaps in overwhelming joy, wrapped in His love. You are revived, refreshed and restored.
