Betrayal is defined as exhibition of disloyalty. It is the unexpected treason that hurts the most. The act of faithlessness can come in all forms and is mostly due to selfish motivation. When Jesus says to think of others more highly than yourself, He is saying be humble and consider the heart of others.
Philippians 2 (KJV)
2 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
THE BETRAYAL OF JUDAS
Mark 14:43-45 (KJV)
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
Why did Judas betray Jesus? It was for 30 pieces of silver…all about the money.
Matthew 26:15-16 (KJV)
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
We may get forsaken from time to time which is a great reminder to put our trust in the Lord and not in man.
Not so with the Lord…
Psalm 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Psalm 118:8 (KJV)
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
Psalm 125:1 (KJV)
They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
And yet another great betrayal, one who David trusted with his heart…
Psalm 55:12-14 (KJV)
12 For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:
13 But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.
14 We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.
Psalm 41:9 (KJV)
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
THE LORD INSTRUCTS US TO CARE FOR OUR HEART. WE ARE NOT TO ALLOW OUR HEARTS TO BE STEPPED ON, ABUSED OR SOLD OUT TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER. WE ARE WORTH MORE THAN THAT.
Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Saul was so jealous of David that he wanted him dead, but he didn’t want to do the dirty work. David would be paid off with Saul’s daughter which Saul believed would never happen.
1 Samuel 18:17 (KJV)
17 And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the Lord's battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
Mark 14:21 (KJV)
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
What is this betrayal?...to reject God’s grace that was given to us on the cross where Jesus shed his blood to pay for our sins. We only have to believe.
31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Delilah’s betrayal was all about the money. She threw him to the Philistines and did not care about his heart or life just like Judas.
Judges 16:5-6 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.
Judges 16:18 (KJV)
18 And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.
Each of the Philistines gave Delilah 1100 pieces of silver. This woman only thought of herself and the love she had for Samson was only artificial. It went to the highest bidder.
There are dogs that are trained to sniff out cash; it is where their nose goes.
God brings about justice and vindication for those who have been wronged. He is our…
Horn of our Salvation
Psalm 18:2 (KJV)
2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; Iwill repay, saith the Lord.
Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
We don’t have to play the victim or scapegoat role when God is our defender. The wicked will be repaid.
Romans 8:32-39 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
