I awoke earth with the sun one morn,
Twas a sight of raptured beauty,
for it was the day Christ was born.
An angel appeared to shepherds near,
to tell a miraculous story.
O, how sweetly doeth the angel sing,
with gentle voices above the heavens,
to declare a child’s wondrous birth,
is God who came as man to earth.
Hear the sounds of lyre and harp,
rejoice our Messiah and King has come.
O Holy thou art, O chose One,
Our Savior, God’s beloved Son.
A brilliant star drew nigh,
seen by wise men from afar,
treasures of gold, frankincense and myrrh,
gifts beholding enduring love unknown.
A child of Bethlehem will recompense,
as Redeemer and faithful friend,
reconciling all hearts and souls to Him.
