CLIMBING UP THE MOUNTAIN (D. Wilson)
You feel like the oxygen is getting thinner and thinner and the mountain steeper and steeper. The rocks become more jagged and sharp and you need your Shepherd’s hand desperately to help you up. You can’t make it without Him. Obstacles make it harder and harder while you become breathless attempting to get to a place of rest where things are safe.
You didn’t know there would be interference on your journey, you weren’t expecting it. The only thing you wanted to do is get to the top where the ground is solid surrounded by green pastures to lie in. Your legs are tired, your feet hurt, your voice is getting weaker from the wind chill. Where is my Shepherd, does He know my journey has been rough, does He know I am in need?
Then your eyes lock onto a rock, fastened firmly, unmovable and unshakable. Sweat begins to dry up from beading down your face. Fear drenched it’s ugliness to your soul and even streamed to your wool socks covering frost bitten toes. It’s just too hard, how can I keep going without my Shepherd.
Then I hear a voice echoing in my heart. I’ve never left you. I’ve been with you throughout your journey. I knew you would make it because My strength is in you. I’ve given you everything pertaining to life and godliness. There is nothing I’ve withheld. Faith moves mountains and all you need to do is believe.
My child do not focus on what you see, focus on knowing what is true. I am the solid Rock in which you now stand. The green pastures are a place of rest. You don’t have to get to the top to rest, you can do it right now. Give Me your burdens and I will make your load light. Then you will soar as an eagle.
Isaiah 40:29-31 (KJV)
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
How do we renew our strength? By waiting on the Lord. God says your strength comes when you wait. The most difficult part of the Christian walk is to wait. We want to get to the top of the mountain and think that is where we find rest. Many arrive at the top because they are good climbers and are able to push through but what they find is no rest at all. It is not a place you get to, it is giving your worries and cares to Jesus right here and now, then watching the mountains move. Faith doesn’t fret, it believes while we rest in God’s faithfulness and truth.
Habakkuk 3:19 (KJV)
19 The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.
Psalm 18:33 (KJV)
33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.
Psalm 23:1-3 (KJV)
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Matthew 11:29-30 (KJV)
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
2 Peter 1:3-4 (KJV)
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
I Samuel 2:2 There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.
Isaiah 41:10-13 (KJV)
10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
11 Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
12 Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
