Hebrews 3:10-15 (KJV)
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
I heard someone once say I have a lot of pride. I don't know if it was a good thing or bad thing to them. Pride interferes with the power of God to work in our lives not because He can't but because He won't. He doesn't like a fist in His face as if to say, "Leave my life alone, I can do what I want." He responds by saying...go right ahead govern your own life and see how it works out. I'll save a place in hell for you.
God lets us be to our own demise until we submit, surrender and humble ourselves to His Holy Spirit and will. The arrogant see leaving one alone as a benefit, not wanting God to interfere with their agenda of doing it "My Way". God is so merciful that He continues to draw men onto Himself even knowing how prideful man is.
If we are believers we should hear our conscience and feel the grieving of God's Holy Spirit when we do sin. If neither one is in existence, then either you are not born again or you have seared your conscience so bad that God's will is not even thought of. You have taken the keys to the abyss and are steering your own ship.
If you are captain of your own ship then don't be surprised when the devil takes a hold of the hull of your ship and moves it into deeper demonic waters where there is no holiness or light. But hey, you think you are on some kind of adventure and are having a great time floating around with demons.
I do not believe in works salvation but scripture states REPENT;
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Spirit)
Matthew 4:17 (KJV) From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 21:31-33 (KJV) Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
Mark 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
What is Jesus really saying about the righteous? He's talking about people who are like the Pharisees who believe they are pure of heart and religious but inside are like dead men's bones and white washed tombs, having the appearance of being Godly but denying the power thereof. They are the walking billboard of pride displaying all their personal glory rather than God's.
Matthew 23:27-28 (KJV) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV) Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
So when Jesus speaks of repentance what does He mean?
Luke 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Matthew 18:2-4 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Is Jesus talking about conversion as in I'm changing a religion from one to another. No, He was talking about becoming born again.
3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Repentance says I must humble myself before my living God. It means to acknowledge that Adam and Eve's sin still reigns and controls our flesh. Christ crucified this sin on the cross, took on the sins of the world so we can be cleansed from all unrighteousness, forgiven and set free from the power of sin and death over our lives. If is a free gift of unmerited grace but you must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. Then God's Holy Spirit comes to live inside you.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
It is truly blasphemy and arrogant pride which thinks man can save himself as if he were God. How many are going to stand before God without the purifying blood of Christ, rejecting His grace and the power of His resurrection and say, "God I've been a good person, I've done my best and lived a religious life for my organization and never did anything that bad." God is going to respond by saying, "Did you believe in what my Son Jesus did on the cross for your sins? Did you give your life to Him? I don't see my Holy Spirit living inside you, only your self righteous spirit of pride. What makes you think you can enter heaven on your own merit instead of my perfect sinless Son who was slain like a spotless Lamb? Depart from me, I never knew you!"
Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
I Peter 18-22 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God made a way for us to enter heaven, be cleansed of all our sin and forgiven. Pride says I have no sin and I don't care if I do. Humility says I am a sinner in need of a Savior, the only Savior of the world Jesus Christ our Messiah. Which one will you choose?
