Jesus said to the woman at the well...
23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
How can a believer worship in spirit and truth? How do you get to that place where your spirit is truly one with the Father and all you want to do is seek and live for His truth.
I believe the hour that has come is the falling away of our first love. You have to be desperate for Jesus to seek truth and live by it. You have to say in your heart my life would be a mess without Jesus, I can't live a day without Him, I need Him in every area of my life.
Many do not have this hunger to be with Jesus, to sit by His side. They even fail to see His miraculous power to heal, deliver and set free from any bondage. Believers only tap into His power when convenient or when something comes up and He is pulled off their shelf.
Rather many are lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. God is waiting to set the captives free but only a few approach His throne and believe. Their hearts are far from Him.
Isaiah 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
Desperate for Jesus means nothing is more important than doing the will of God. You long for His presence each and every day, He is your joy, your peace and comfort. You turn to Him at all times not just when things are going bad.
Many have shallow love therefore have shallow roots. How can you manifest the presence of God when your love is never desperate but accommodates only selfish desires. This love is cold and limiting, never overflowing and bountiful.
Let's get back to our first love where we are desperate for Jesus at all times no matter whether the sun is shining or it's cloudy and raining.
Matthew 5:1-12 (KJV)
5 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (desperate for Jesus means being humble)
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
