ONE OF THE GREATEST PROMISES OF GOD

July 3, 2018

Jesus the True Vine

15 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. 3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you.4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! 8 When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.

What a great promise the Lord gives to His children! Ask anything you want and it will be granted if we abide in Him!

There is a lot of pruning going on in the Christian life. Why is it so beneficial? You cannot bear fruit without it. We are transformed into the image of the Lord. Pruning takes away all the things in our lives that are hindering our walk with Jesus.

How do you remain in the Vine which is the Lord? Give some examples of how not to remain in the Vine and some in how to remain in the Vine.

What types of fruit does God want us to bear?

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Out of these fruit which ones seem to be more difficult?

What happens to an unbeliever who pretends to be a believer?

Matthew 3:9-10  And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

How do you identify a wolf who pretends to bear fruit?

Matthew 7:15-20  Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

RIGHTEOUS CHARACTER

Philippians 1:10-11 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

What produces righteous character and how do we display it? Choices we make to do what is pleasing to God.

If we were a billboard and this billboard had a running movie of our days, how would it represent Jesus?  How would it deflect from who Jesus is?

Why is it so important that we use our eyes, ears and mouth for God’s glory?

I Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

God has given us two ears, two eyes, one nose and one mouth. How can we give God glory with what He has given to us?

Ears: Not allow itching ears to lead us away from God’s truth. Closing our ears off to things that God considers sin or evil.

Eyes: Psalm 101:3 I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away;
It shall not fasten its grip on me.

Nose: We do not want to be a stench when Jesus is our fragrant aroma. Our nose is a tool for discernment. If we can smell a rotten egg or danger we can flee from it.

Mouth: Colossians 1:6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

We may not be able to go all over the world to spread the Gospel but we can pray for salvation for all people or any open door God gives to us. The fruit God produces changes lives.

First and foremost we must not use the name of the Lord in vain. Our mouth is to honor Him at all times. Exodus 20:7

Deuteronomy 5:10-11 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.11 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain: for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Our tongues can be used for evil or for good.

I Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Ask God’s Holy Spirit to show you some ways you can encourage and build others up.

The world says “Me first” what does Jesus say?

James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

The narcissists in this world do not understand yielding to others.

Acts 28:27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

God is pruning us for His glory. Are we listening to Him?

Are we yielding to God’s pruning or are we fighting against Him? Can a branch say prune here but don’t prune in this other area, I want it to stay the way it is?
