LISTENING TO THE VOICE OF THE ENEMY OR THE VOICE OF GOD?

November 29, 2018

I picked the picture above because I thought of how God fills our basket (minds) with beautiful things like the freshness and fragrance of flowers. It's a narrow path like the path depicted in this picture but how pleasant and peaceful it is.

This morning I was singing this song under my breath because I did not want to wake my husband up. Then when he awoke I started singing with my every breath.

Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me
You're my glory
You're the lifter of my head
Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me
You're my glory
You're the lifter of my head

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
You're the lifter of my head

Do we ever stop to think what thoughts we are allowing to infiltrate our minds? The enemy wants to give us his thoughts about our lives, our situation, our circumstance, our problems, his distorted and destructive voice attacking our very soul.

God wants to speak into our hearts, our minds, our soul with His voice of compassion, goodness, love and instruction to guide our lives. Who are we giving our credence to?

Is the enemy validating his thoughts because we have allowed him into our minds? Can’t we hear his voice saying…God is not for you, He is against you. God will never answer your prayers, He will not stand by your side, He will not deliver or protect you. He will leave you hanging by a thread on your own. He tells us God doesn’t care about your circumstance, your trials and tribulations. The enemy also attacks our self worth and identity in Jesus. He says we mean nothing to Him and we are worthless.

God is speaking loud and clear but what direction is our ear facing? Is it to the father of lies? When the enemy says you are defeated…God says you have victory. When the enemy says your life is hopeless…God says I am your hope. When the enemy says don’t bother believing for answered prayer…God says your prayers have already been answered. The enemy says God is not your defender…God says I am your strong tower, refuge and strength.

Proverbs 18:10

The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

What about the lies that the enemy taunts us with...your enemies will prevail, you are defeated, you can't win, you are a loser.

Proverbs 21:30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

So when we feel like biting our nails and are sitting at the edge of our seat worrying about what is to come, we can rebuke the lies of the enemy infiltrating our minds. Rather than giving glory to the devil’s words, use our mouths to praise God and sing how He is our shield about us. He is our victory and mighty Conqueror which no wisdom of man, understanding or counsel can come against.

The enemy wants to make God into a small, ineffective or powerless god in our minds. It’s one of the biggest lies he tries to tell us. Then of course he attempts to make his power greater, stronger and his voice to overshadow the voice of God. So as long as we give credence to his voice our faith will be weak, our trust will be minimal and our hearts will be hopeless with grief.

Better to lift our voice in praise than to walk around listening to the voice of the devil. The enemy wants our thoughts to be steeped in hell. The reality is we are seated in the heavenlies with our FATHER who sits on His throne governing the whole earth.

Ephesians 2:5-7 King James Version (KJV)

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
