If we want to hear God’s direction we have to pay attention.
God’s intentions for His children is about prevention. He wants us to grow in Him and not have our roots in this world.
Human nature apart from walking in the Spirit declares I want to make my own choices and decisions, my will be done without regard for God’s approval or desires.
As believers we cannot do what we’ve always done which is to go our own way, do our own thing and do our own will. This change is not to hurt us but to help us get anchored in Him. This world turns in circles as Ecclesiastes points out, all is vanities of vanities. No matter how many times the earth rotates, it comes back to the same place.
We as believers are meant to shine the light of Christ not to reflect who we are. What good would it do if believers held mirrors everywhere they went to reflect themselves?
How do we gain wisdom, knowledge and insight of what God is saying rather than what we want to hear? It is seeking God’s Kingdom first, putting our desires in heavenly places, dying to ourselves, reading His word as He speaks to us, transforming our minds to walk in the Spirit and have the mind of Christ.
We are not to love this world as if it is one big chocolate bar that lasts for our existence. By dying to our flesh it turns our hearts from being flesh driven, seeking our own satisfaction to desiring God more than anything else in this world. It unplugs our ears to hear God’s voice rather than our own.
When a believer is in continuous sin their hearts are hardened, they cannot hear from God. They have shut Him out at least in those areas they have not granted Him permission to change. They might as well take their hands and cover their ears and shout I can’t hear you God.
God’s Holy Spirit speaks to every believer. But any believer can shut Him out. They can give the portion of their hearts they are willing to give over but tell God by their actions don’t touch this area of my life, it’s mine.
That is called hardness of heart, being stiff necked, being rebellious. God’s word says rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. It is rejecting His word and His will. This is not something to gloss over. Witchcraft is a devotion to satan’s territory, his evil practices.
I Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
In this present time we are in, hearing from God is not optional. It should always be if we have a relationship with Him. It’s not only time to clean house, but to get our hearts right with God. Chocolate bars don’t last and you will want more and more. This life offers a world of addictions because that’s how satan wants it.
Be free now and live a life that seeks after God, desires His will and be devoted to hearing His voice. There is only One Shepherd and we must know His voice.
